Door Screen FAQ
| Q |
Is
the screen part of the door or can it be fitted at a later
date? |
| A |
The Centor Door Screen is
integrated as part of the bifold door frame and cannot be fitted
later so it has to be bought at the same time as the bifold
door from the door manufacturer. A retro-fit version may be
made available in the future. |
| Q |
Is
the screen available for both Aluminium and Timber bifold doors? |
| A |
At the moment it is available
only for timber bifold doors but an aluminium version is in
the implementation stage by one of our partners and should
be available early in 2007. |
| Q |
Can the
screen suit more than just bifold doors? |
| A |
Yes the screen is designed
to suit any large opening such as sliding stacking doors, French
doors etc. but at this stage we have only released it for bifold
doors. |
| Q |
Will
Door Screen suit both Centor 40kg (E2) and 80kg (E3) folding
systems? |
| A |
The screen system will suit
both but we only have a frame to suit E2 as yet. The E3 frame
should be released by early 2007. |
| Q |
Can I
buy the Door Screen product directly from Centor? |
| A |
The Door Screen system has
been developed for sale to joiners and window/door manufacturers
who will assemble/construct the product for sale to end users
such as builders and home owners. |
| Q |
Will
the Door Screen suit bi-fold doors using hardware supplied
by other manufacturers? |
| A |
No, the Door Screen system
has been designed to work only with Centor bi-fold door hardware
and is available only from joiners and door manufacturers using
Centor systems. |
| Q |
How big
can the screen be? |
| A |
The Doorscreen can cover
a door size of up to 2.4h x 3.0w or 3.0h x 2.4w in a single
screen. The double screen will cover door sizes of 2.4h x 5.7w
or 3.0h x 4.8w |
| Q |
What
happens if the wind blows too strongly? |
| A |
The screen will resist a
moderate breeze depending upon size of up to 10 knots without
the screen coming out of the top and bottom tracks. In high
winds the screen would have to be retracted and in this case
it would most likely be that the bifold door would be closed
anyway. |
| Q |
Can the
screen be locked like a security door? |
| A |
No, the Door Screen is not
a security product and screens are held closed with a magnetic
strip. |
| Q |
What
mesh is in the Door Screen? |
| A |
The mesh is a polyester mesh
called “PetScreen Lite”. This mesh is the best
compromise between vision and resistance to accidental damage.
It is very hardwearing and resistant to damage from pets. |
| Q |
How do
I replace the screen mesh if it is damaged? |
| A |
The screen assembly is fairly
easy to replace but it would be best to call the manufacturer
of the door or Centor to arrange a serviceman to replace the
mesh. We will have DIY replacement cartridges with instruction
available in the future for those who want to do the job themselves. |
| Q |
Can the
Door Screen be used in a bushfire area? |
| A |
No, the only mesh able to
be used in the Door Screen is synthetic and a metal mesh is
required for bushfire applications. Research is currently underway
on screen materials that will suit bushfire in retractable
screens. |
| Q |
Is the
Door Screen adjustable? |
| A |
Yes the Door Screen is adjustable
to ensure that it tracks properly and this will be done at
the time of assembly. It also is adjustable for tension on
the mesh to make it tighter if it droops at all. Any adjustment
should be carried out by the manufacturer or an authorised
Centor service agent. |
| Q |
How does
the screen work so much easier than the other aftermarket screens? |
| A |
Door Screen unlike other
products is designed without the large coil spring that is
used by other types to retract the screen. Door Screen uses
an new patented system called LBT (Load Balancing Technology)
to tension the screen which means that it does not require
a brake of any means in the open position. |
| Q |
How do
I clean the screen if it gets dirty? |
| A |
The mesh is virtually self
cleaning but can be wiped with a soft cloth to remove any dust
or lint that attaches itself. The bottom track recess may need
to vacuum clean occasionally to remove any dirt and debris
that could fill the track and cause malfunction of the cables
and rollers. |
| Q |
What
maintenance needs to be done on the Door Screen? |
| A |
The only maintenance is to
keep the system clean of contamination from dirt and debris
build up. All the bearings and other parts are sealed and non
serviceable. |
| Q |
What
happens if my dog or children run into the Door Screen? |
| A |
Door Screen’s load
balancing technology, in conjunction with the tough, tensioned
mesh means that unintentional impact is just like walking into
a vertical trampoline – the victim should literally bounce
off unscathed, with the screen unit intact. There are physical
limits of course, if you hit the screen too hard, something
has to give, so, please don’t use it as a trampoline. |
| Q |
Can the
screen be opened from both sides? |
| A |
Yes the screen can be from
let to right or reversed for single screens and can be opened
in 2 directions individually or both for double screens. |
| Q |
Does
a double screen have to meet in the centre? |
| A |
No, on double screens the
stop position can be set at any position as long as either
screen does not extend further than the maximum allowable for
a single screen (2.4 or 3.0m depending upon height). |
| Q |
What
is the warranty on the Door Screen? |
| A |
The same with all Centor
products it is warranted for 10 years from original installation.
There are obviously some items of wear and tear that are not
covered and the warrantee is provided to cover manufacturing
defects. Please refer to the Centor Warranty and maintenance
certificate provided with the Door Screen for full details. |
| Q |
How much
does the DoorScreen cost? |
| A |
How much the screen costs
depends upon a few things such as size of the screen, timber
type the door is made of for a timber bifold and configuration.
Generally the cost for a Door Screen Bifold door adds about
30-35% onto the cost of the Bifold door. |
| Q |
Can the
Bifold door with Door Screen be open in and out? |
| A |
Currently the only Door Screen
available is for open out doors. An open- in version will be
available by mid 2007 but this will only be available for sheltered
locations not subject to adverse weather. |
| Q |
How well
does Door Screen resist corrosion? |
| A |
The internal components such
as rollers, brackets, cables etc are all manufactured from
corrosion resistant materials such as stainless steel and reinforced
engineered polymers? |
| Q |
Where
do I get a Door Screen from? |
| A |
As joiners, fabricators or
window and door manufacturers are trained and verified by Centor
as Door Screen manufacturers they will be posted on the Centor
website. |
| Q |
Does
the Door Screen have to be factory assembled or can this be
done on site? |
| A |
The Door Screen can be assembled
either in the factory or on site but we would recommend factory
installation at the time the door is assembled. It is important
that the Door Screen is ordered at the same time as the bi-fold
door so that the correct frame is manufactured as Door Screen
cannot currently be retro-fitted to a non Door Screen bi-fold
door. |
